Photos from the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone 2 – The Abandoned City of Pripyat

In this gallery of photos from The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone I have focused on the abandoned city of Pripyat. The city was founded in 1970 and was built by the Soviet Union to serve the nearby Chernobyl Nuclear Plant. The city had a population of nearly 50,000 by the time it was evacuated on April 27, 1986, the day after the disaster at the Chernobyl Plant.

In my previous blog post I looked at some of the buildings I photographed in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Ukraine. In this post I am focusing on some of the objects in the various houses and buildings I visited. The locations are all detailed in the captions and were photographed in the village of Zalissya, Pripyat and Kopachi.

Tina and I recently visited Ukraine for some travel photography. We made a visit to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone to photograph many abandoned buildings in some small villages surrounding the nuclear plant and around Pripyat, the city close to Reactor Number 4 which exploded on April 26, 1986 which led to the evacuation of Pripyat and the 30km Exclusion Zone.
