Simon was in Aberdeen in Scotland to photograph Glaswegian giants Mogwai performing at His Majesty’s Theatre as part of the True North Festival 2018. A fantastic set from Mogwai included song from their new album as well as favourites such as Like Herod and My Father, My King.

“Iconic acts inspired by an epic era!”
The beginning of September saw the launch of a brand new epic music festival Cool Britannia — which which took place at Knebworth — the stately home of rock. The new festival was opened on Saturday with the premier of Britpop Classical. Britpop Classical features a full rock back of some of the country’s best session musicians together with an amazing horns section and orchestra, all backing a spectacular array of vocalists including The Farm’s Peter Hooton performing All Together Now, Saffron from Republica with Ready To Go, Heaven 17’s Glenn Gregory covering Pulp’s Common People and the unique Phil Daniels (Quadrophenia, EastEnders) closed the set with Blur’s Parklife.

Simon headed over to Capesthorne Hall in Siddington near Macclesfield for the latest Rewind Festival North. The festival is now in it’s fourth year at the Cheshire venue while celebrating is tenth year overall. Simon J. Newbury Photography has been at every Rewind North.

Bluedot Festival 2018 – Photo Gallery
Simon headed over to Jodrell Bank to photograph the four day music and science Bluedot Festival. Thursday night saw the return of Manchester’s Hallé Orchestra who played the score to the BBC’s Blue Planet. Wayne Coyne and the Flaming Lips headed back to Cheshire to headline on the Friday in the shadow of the giant Lovell Telescope with their usual extravagant pomp including balloons, confetti and of course a giant inflatable robot! Saturday saw a host of acts across the festival stages including: FEHM, Nadine Shah, Gary Numan and Future Islands. Professor Richard Dawkins also battled the music to discuss his latest book. Sunday was headlined by The Chemical Brothers with performances from Acid Mothers Temple, Shattered Ankles, Crazy P, Future Get Down, Hello Cosmos, Little Dragon and Vessels. Comedian Gary Delaney also appeared.

Simon J. Newbury Photography have photographed the Bluetones many times before at venues including Whatfest, The Box in Crewe, 53 Degrees in Preston and The O2 Academy in Birmingham. The band were back together on the 20th Anniversary Jukebox Tour of the UK.

Simon was in Manchester for the latest UK tour from Brooklyn’s They Might Be Giants. Famous for such tunes as Istanbul (Not Constantinople), Birdhouse In Your Soul and Boss Of Me, the US band checked back into Manchester Academy having last played the venue back in 2013.

The end of a very busy fortnight of live music photography was Ella Eyre performing live at a sold out Albert Hall in Manchester. As well as covering Liverpool Music Week we managed to fit in shows from Joe Satriani, Joe Bonamassa and Glenn Hughes. We also headed down to Birmingham to photograph Caspian on their UK and European Tour.
Simon was up in Manchester to photograph Ella, just after winning her MOBO Award for Best Female Act. Support on the night came from Flawes and Jasmine Thompson.

Music Photography: Liverpool Music Week 2015
We were back for our second year photographing at Liverpool Music Week. Last year we photographed post rock outfit Mogwai at the Camp and Furnace. This year we were able to cover more of the shows held across various venues in Liverpool. The first show was Richard Hawley performing live at The Dome (Grand Central Hall). Tina covered this show as Simon was just down the road at the Liverpool Echo Arena to photograph Joe Bonamassa.

Music Photography: Leeds Festival 2015
We were at Leeds Festival this year for the first year. Working as a team we covered all the extra stages including The NME/ BBC Radio One Stage, The Alternative Stage, The Festival Republic Stage, The Pit/ Lock Up Stage and the BBC Introducing Stage. Between us we shot a great number of bands, and a few comedians! Naturally we got to photograph a few nuns, superheroes and smurfs along the way!
