Photos from the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone 2 – The Abandoned City of Pripyat
In this gallery of photos from The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone I have focused on the abandoned city of Pripyat. The city was founded in 1970 and was built by the Soviet Union to serve the nearby Chernobyl Nuclear Plant. The city had a population of nearly 50,000 by the time it was evacuated on April 27, 1986, the day after the disaster at the Chernobyl Plant.
The city is now a ghost city, left to decay following the evacuation. Included in this photo gallery are the city limit sign, several notable buildings of Pripyat as well as the iconic Amusement Park which was set to open several days after the disaster and abandonment of the city for the May Day celebrations.
