Famous from The Housemartins and The Beautiful South, Paul Heaton is back singing with Jacqui Abbott, also formerly of The Beautiful South. The pair are currently on tour in the UK and headed to The Lowry in Salford. The set included new material from the pairs new album as well as classics from The Beautiful South and from The Housemartins. Support on the night came from Cherry Ghost.

Fall Out Boy brought the Save Rock And Roll European Tour to Manchester on 18th March. Tina headed off to photograph the band at the Phones 4U Arena. The Phones 4U Arena, formerly the MEN Arena was close to it’s 21,000 capacity.

Music Photography: Jake Bugg Live @ The Ritz

This was my first visit to The Ritz in Manchester. I have of course photographed at many venues across Manchester so it was nice to add a new venue to the list! It’s a great venue with a 1500 capacity. Thankfully it is also blessed with great lights!

The Jake Bugg show was a complete sell out so the place was buzzing. First on stage were The Silent Palms from Georgia, USA. They went down well with the crowd.

We have worked with The Eyres many times since their inception as Sink Or Swim. They have gone through several line-up changes so keep us busy with lots of photography! The latest line-up needed some new photos ahead of some upcoming shows at The Box, Crewe and other great venues so we got together and produced a set of studio images. As it warms up outside we are planning to head out for some location photos to add to their vast collection!

It’s always good fun working with The Eyres. Lead singer Oli Ng was also with us all day for Boxjam V, the charity event we organise every year at The Box in Crewe. Thank Oli, and the rest of The Eyres!

We were commissioned by John Bramwell of I Am Kloot to get a set of promotional portrait photos. John wanted a set of images to use for publicity purposes for his latest solo tour. John decided on the location and we met up on the platform at Crewe Station. Complete with winter hat and guitar in it’s travel case we made a set of images for John to use.

Although John is well known for I Am Kloot, he is embarking on a solo tour in the first few months of 2014. He also has a live CD out to compliment the tour.

The Doors Alive recently made their debut at The Box in Crewe. Tina went along to photograph the tribute band. It represented the second time that Simon J. Newbury Photography has photographed the band. Back in 2007 we photographed them at DeBees in Winsford. As memory serves this was their first gig with their singer (an absolute dead ringer for Jim Morrison). The Box gig was well attended and below is one of Simon’s photos from back in 2007 followed by some of Tina’s photos from The Box, Crewe!

I’m a big fan of Placebo and was pleased to get a chance to photograph them at the O2 Manchester Apollo. I’ve been a fan since the early days and saw them many times in London as well as in Cardiff, Bristol and Reading. The first song I heard from Placebo was Teenage Angst. I was delighted the played a slow version of it in the encore!

Every year since 2009 Simon J. Newbury Photography has organised (with lots of help from volunteers) Boxjam. Boxjam is a charity music/ variety event held at The Box in Crewe. This year was Boxjam V, spread across two stages with nearly 30 music acts.

We had the pleasure of having a very special band perform for the very first time. We opted to create a buzz about the band and Boxjam by keeping the identity of the band members a secret. After a meeting with the band we arranged a sinister looking photo-shoot of the band appearing to be hostages, complete with burlap sacks covering the band members faces.
